Our Town.

Bocking Windmill. Bocking Windmill. Situated two miles from the town of Braintree, this former working postmill was built around 1721 and was moved in the 1830s as buildings were constructed near by and shielded it from the wind. It was restored in 1994 and there is a society known as “the friends of Bocking windmill” that work with the council to promote the windmill and ensure its preservation. It is one of the only grade 1 listed Windmills in Essex and is complete both internally and externally. It still has a lot of original equipment and homes a small collection of historical agricultural items. It is open to the public during the summer months.
